The Solar System By Andy and Joy
Table of Contents Sun Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto
Saturn Saturn has an orbit 1,429,000 Km from the sun The diameter of the planet is 120,536 Km around The mass is 5.65x10^26 Kg Saturn has 34 names satellites orbiting it What its made up of
What Saturn is made up of Saturn is about 75% hydrogen The rest of the planet is made up of about 25% helium with traces of water, methane, ammonia and rock
Uranus The Orbit of the planet is about 2,870,990,000 Km from the sun The diameter of the planet is 51,118 Km The Mass of the planet is 8.683x10^25 Uranus’ Atmosphere
Uranus’ Atmosphere Uranus' atmosphere is about 83% hydrogen, 15% helium and 2% methane.
Neptune Neptune has an orbit of 4,504,000,000 Km from the sun The diameter of the planet is 49,532 Km The mass of the planet is 1.0247x10^26 Kg Neptune has seven names satellites
Neptune's satellites Naiad Thalassa Despina Galatea Larissa Proteus Triton Nereid
Pluto Pluto’s orbit is 5,913,520,000 Km from the sun The diameter is only 2274 Km The mass is 1.27x10^22 Kg Pluto was initially classified as a planet right after its discovery 75 years ago, however in 2006 a new definition of what a planet is was release and Pluto didn’t fit into the new description. Pluto is now considered a dwarf planet in a whole new category from the others
Jupiter Jupiter is the biggest planet of the nine at 1.900x10^27 If Jupiter were hollow than more than 1 thousand Earths could fit inside of it This planet has a lot of satellites orbiting it because of its huge size Unlike Saturn's intricate and complex ring patterns, Jupiter has a simple ring system that is composed of an inner halo, a main ring and a Gossamer ring
Jupiter’s Satellites Four Galilean Satellites Io Europa Ganymede Callisto There are 57 total moons orbiting the planet but those are the four that Galileo discovered with his telescope
Mars Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and other than the earth is the best planet for supporting life Because of this many visit have been made to this planet by various NASA rovers for vide taping The first space craft to visit mars was the Mariner 4 in 1965 The planets orbit is 227,940,000 Km from the sun~this makes average days in warmth but very cold nights The planets mass is 6.4219x10^23~ which is slightly smaller than earth
Venus Sixth Largest planet in the solar system Venus’ orbit is the most circular of all the planets~108,200,000 KM from the sun Diameter~12,103.6 KM Mass~4.869x10 ^24 Kg Pressure
The Pressure of Venus and what makes up the planet The pressure of Venus is about 90 times of what the Earth is Standing on Venus would be the equivalent of being 1Km deep in our ocean The planet is made up of mostly carbon dioxide with a layer of clouds several miles thick. This creates the greenhouse affect that keeps the planet very hot
Earth The Earths orbit is 149,600,000 Km from the sun The diameter is 12,756.3 Km with a mass of 5.972x10^24 Kg The earth is made up of multiple layers
Earths layers Crust 0-40 Km Upper Mantle 40-400 Km Transition Region 400-650 Km Lower Mantle 650-2700 Km D Layer 2700-2890 Km Outer Core 2890-5150 Km Inner Core 5150-6378 Km
Mercury Orbit~ 57,910,000 km Diameter~4,880 km Mass~ 3.30x10^23 kg Surface
Mercury’s Surface The surface has craters that resemble our moon. The atmosphere is very thin and because it is so close to the sun, it is very hot~90 degrees Kelvin at night to 700 degrees Kelvin during the day
Sun Diameter~ 1,390,000 km Mass~ 1.989x10^30 Temperature~ 15.6 million kalvin What the sun is made of…
What the Sun is made of… 70 percent hydrogen 28 percent helium Less than 2 percent metal
