Blended learning at Think uses the U-turn model which integrates face-to-face and online learning. In the model, students complete orientation activities online before class to prepare. During class, topics are discussed building on the preparation. After class, students review resources, provide peer feedback, and develop materials to contribute online for the next session. The model examples show students reading and quizzing before class, discussing and problem-solving during, and continuing the discussion online after class.

The U turn model Before • • Study resources online Prepare for upcoming f2f session by orientation activity submitted online (adapted from Collis & Moonen, 2003, p. 92) During Build on preparation: • Use session to focus on ideas studied in the „before‟ period, to report on ongoing or finished activities, and also to prepare for follow up activities After Follow up afterwards: • • Re-view and re-use resources Individually, or as a group, develop or locate resources to contribute to the online site; give peer feedback to contributed materials Use materials contributed in the follow-up resources for the next (or another group‟s) „before‟ session

(library database/journal/text) • Students complete (10 questions) formative Selfcheck quiz that previews understanding of topic • Students locate and share website/s with discipline examples During • Touch point - checking if students understand/ have questions on Before activities • Small group discussion case study examining topic • Problem-solving exercise – to get students applying theory to practice, maybe link to assessment/assignment • Short lecture/s relating to real-world examples • Touch point - scaffolding the After activities so students know what to do before next class After (online) Follow up afterwards: • Discussion forum on how to resolve contradictory definitions of HRM. (Students can moderate if applicable-) • Podcast to follow up on inclass questions (students can create?) • Ask students to link to next week‟s topic through problem-solving scenario Use materials contributed in the follow-up resources for the next (or another group‟s) „Before‟ session
