1. VOCABULARY
 1. The sense of smell.
 The olfatory receptors are in the nasal cavity.
 2. The sense of taste.
 Taste receptor are on the tongue.
 3. The sense of touch.
 The skin is the main organ.
 4. The sense of sight
 The eyes are the main organ
 5. The sense of hearing.
 The ears are the main organs.
2. QUESTIONS (speaking)
 Which is the main receptory of sense of smell?
 When you eat, which is the main sensory system that
you use?
 Which is the main organ of sight?
 Which is the main organ of the hearing?

5º PRIMARY
THE MUSCULOSKELETAL
SYSTEM
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE
SKELETON
 It supports the body and helps to keep its shape.
 It protect the body´s soft, internal organs, like
brain, heart and lungs.
 It is connected to muscles that move the different
bones.
VOCABULARY
 Ligaments: Connect bones to each other.
 Muscles: Can stretch and contract.
 Bones: The skeleton is made up of bones.
 Tendons: Attach muscles to the bones.
VOCABULARY
 The joint.
 Our bones are connected to each other at the joint.
Some joints can move, while other joints can not
move at all.
VOCABULARY
SKELETON
 How many bones are there in our body?
 It is made of 206 different bones
THE HUMAN SKELETON
 We can put the bones of the human skeleton into
three
 The bones of the head.
 The bones of the trunk.
 The bones of the extremities
THE BONES OF THE HEAD
 The bones of the head form the skull or cranium.
These bones protect the brain.
THE BONES OF THE TRUNK
 Spinal column
 Sternum
 Ribs
THE BONES OF THE UPPER
EXTREMETY
THE BONES OF LOWER
EXTREMITIES
VOCABULARY
 MUSCLES
The muscles are made of many muscle cells.
QUESTIONS (SPEAKING)
 How many bones are there in our body?
 Which are the bones of upper extremety?
 Which are the bones of lower extremety?
ACTIVITY
 Complete:
ACTIVITY
 Label the images of the human body with the
words. There are some space that it not
necessary.
 Sternocleidomastoid; Deltoid; Pectorals; Biceps;
Abdominals; Quadriceps; Calf muscles.
ACTIVIY
 Classify the following bones into three groups
(head, trunk and extremeties).
 Femur
 Sternum
 Humerus
 Ulna
 Patella
 Rib
 Temporal bone
 Radious
 Occipital bone
 fibula

 How do you feel today?
Unit 3
The nerveous system
 The nervous system has two main parts:
 CENTRAL NERVOUS SYTEM
 PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
 The brain is inside the skill. It has got three main
parts:
 Cerebrum
 Cerebellum
 Brain stem.
 The spinal cord is insede the spinal column.
THE BRAIN
THE BRAIN
 Cerebrum: The brain does activities like thinking,
feeling and remebering.
 Cerebellum. It helps you to keep your balance
and posture.
 Brain stem. It controls basic function, like
respiration and circulation
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS
SYSTEM
 Nerves are long fibres made of nerve cells
(neurons).
 There are types of nerves:
 Sensory nerves.
 Motor nerves.
 Mixed nerves
VOLUNTARY AND
INVOLUNTARY MOVEMENTS
 Nerve impulses for voluntary movements go
from the brain to the muscles.
 Tehe nerve impulses for involuntary movements
go from the spinal cord to the musles.
ACTIVITIES
 1.- Match the parts of the brain with the activities
that they control.
Smell
Cerebrum Balance
Sight
Cerebellum Posture
Respiration
Brain stem Thinking
ACTIVITIES
 2 Anwser the questions:
a) Which are the parts of nervous system?
b) What are the three main parts of the brain?
ACTIVITIES
 3 Write if this movement is voluntary or
involuntary.
 Sneezing when you have fot a cold.
 Take a book.
 Playing a muscial instrument
 Pulling back your hand from something hot.
