COMMUNICATION STYLES IN TEAMS…
There is no right or wrong style…we need all four types
The best teams are ones that have similar representation from all four styles
We vastly improve our chances of successfully connecting and communicating with
another when we “style flex”
CommunicationIs….. Whatis“communicationstyle”?
The process of attempting to
create shared understanding
 Verbal & nonverbal
Simultaneous assigning of meaning
How people act when they can do things their own way—
the way that is most natural to them.
 Behavior so consistent that it is predictable.
Behavior that seems “typical,” part of their personality, or you
expect it most of the time.
BenefitsofUnderstandingCommunicationStyle
 Improves your interaction with others
 Helps others interpret your behavior
 Helps you interpret others’ behavior
 Influences your success
Effective communication is essential to a happy and productive work environment.
 Managers and Employees should be allowed to each other and receive information from each other in useful and
supportive ways.
A communication style is the way we share information with others.
There are four Different forms of communication:
 verbal,
 Paraverbal
 body language
 personal space.
To become an excellent, highly effective communicator, you need to understand other people’s communication styles.
INTRODUCTION
1. Verbal: you have complete control over the words you use in a statement. Differences in age, Experience, and
background can result in different interpretation of the same statement.
2. Paraverbal: it not just what you say, but the way you say it that can change the meaning of your statement.
The voice tone and intensity ,as well as the speed that someone speaks and the pauses in between are
examples of paraverbals.
3. Body Language: it is communicated to others by your body movements and facial expressions. For
Example ,the way you stand, walk, shake hands, and maintain eye contact are all forms of body language.
4. Personal Space: It includes not only the space between you and others, but also your personal appearance,
your choice of decorations, and how you arrange your workspace.
