Universal design is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people without the need for adaptation. There is a 7-step process for universal design that includes identifying the application, defining users, involving consumers, adopting guidelines, applying guidelines, planning accommodations, and training/evaluating. Instructional methods for universal design involve representing information in multiple formats, highlighting important information, activating background knowledge, modeling skills, and offering strategic choices for students.
