This shared infrastructure helps reduce ownership costs while providing improved visibility and control over endpoint management and security.
IV. Why Lync and Forefront Endpoint Protection? (slide 6)
Goals for this slide:
Clearly articulate the need to update Core CAL after 10 years.
 • 3. Use third-party evidence from analysts to support the claim that the Updated Core CAL is delivering “Essential Capabilities”.Talking points:
This licensing change is driven by the fact that there have been significant advances to desktop computing since Microsoft®first introduced the Core CAL Suite 10 years ago. Workplace scenarios have evolved to fully embrace Instant Messaging and Antivirus protection as necessities for every user.
Slide 6 includes quotes from prominent analysts that capture two supporting trends:
The IM client will become the primary interface for enterprise telephony.
 • 4. The convergence of Security and Management capabilities will help customers lower the cost of managing PCs.
V. Customer Benefits (slide 7)
Goals for this slide:
Define the Essential Capabilities of the Updated Core CAL Suite.
 • 5. Make current and potential customers aware of the benefits of Software Assurance.
 • 6. Introduce Microsoft’s long-term vision for delivering “the cloud on your terms”. Talking points:
Essential Capabilities
Anywhere access Mobile email is no longer a novelty—it is a business necessity. Give your users portable productivity with real-time access to their communications on hundreds of compatible devices with Exchange ActiveSync® and Microsoft® Exchange Server 2010. Email, contacts, and calendar are automatically synced to mobile devices over the air, enabling users to act on communications more quickly.
 • 7. Easily share and publish information – Document collaboration is a critical element to working effectively as a team in your enterprise. The combination of SharePoint Server and Office 2010 offers a spectrum of document collaboration methods, whether it is co-authoring a spreadsheet or routing a business plan through a workflow. However you collaborate on your documents, the days of forwarding attachments in email are history.
 • 8. Connected end user experience Workplaces are changing. Teams are more distributed. People need productivity tools that enable them to work from virtually anywhere. Lync Server 2010 helps users communicate with context from Microsoft®Office, Microsoft®Exchange, and Microsoft®SharePoint with instant messaging and rich presence capabilities.
 • 9. Management and security from a single console
 • 10. Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 enables businesses to simplify and improve endpoint protection while greatly reducing infrastructure costs. It builds on System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 (and later), allowing customers to use their existing client management infrastructure to deploy and maintain endpoint protection from a single console.Improved Value
For customers who buy/renew before August 1:
 • 11. If you are an existing Core CAL customer with active SA as of August 1, 2011, you automatically have rights to new Lync and Forefront capabilities of Core CAL.
 • 12. Value of Forefront Endpoint Protection and System Center Configuration Manager:
 • 13. Cost savings driven by lower infrastructure requirements and fewer vendors to manage. (See Resources section)
 • 14. Value of Lync Server:
 • 15. Customer savings driven by enhanced user productivity and lower communications costs. (See Resources section)Simplifies Cloud Transition
Lync Server IM and Presence capabilities come standard with every version of Microsoft®Office 365® from E1 through E4. By adding Lync Server Standard CAL to the Updated Core CAL, end users will be able to communicate with context regardless of where they are deployed. This will simplify hybrid scenarios such as a branch office users hosted in the cloud and corporate HQ users hosted in the datacenter.
The combination of Forefront Endpoint Protection and System Center Configuration Manager brings parity between PCs managed by Windows Intune and those with Core CAL. In both cases, IT can manage and secure PCs from a single console delivering a comparable administrative experience no matter where the user’s services are hosted.
Note: Slide 10 depicts how the Updated EA in combination with the Updated Core CAL helps facilitate this transition.
VI. Better Together Productivity Scenarios (slide 8)
Goals for this slide:
Expand the scope of discussion to include Microsoft®Office Professional Plus and the Professional Desktop (Platform EA).
 • 16. Highlight productivity scenarios that are enhanced by Microsoft®Lync Server in Microsoft®Office, Microsoft®SharePoint and Microsoft® Exchange. Talking Points:
Lync + Microsoft® Office
IM and Presence features in Office require Microsoft®Office Professional Plus and are not available in Microsoft®Office Standard. The Lync Client is also included in Office Professional Plus.
 • 17. Presence features in Microsoft® Word, PowerPoint® and OneNote® help you identify who is actively co-authoring content with you. Presence in Microsoft® Outlook lets you know if email recipients are at their desk before you press “send”.
 • 18. Easily initiate an IM or Voice/Video chat session from the context of a shared document, meeting invite or email. Lync + Exchange Server
Automatic presence updates help users connect without being intrusive.
 • 19. Users’ presence information is automatically updated to reflect meetings and appointments in their Exchange calendar. Lync + SharePoint Server
SharePoint makes it easy to find people based on expertise and content they have shared.
 • 20. You can initiate a Skill Search directly from the Lync Client.
 • 21. When browsing search results, presence indicators help you identify which experts are available to chat. VII. Optimized Desktop Scenarios (slide 9)
Goals for this slide:
Expand the scope of discussion to include Windows 7 Enterprise and the Professional Desktop (Platform EA).
 • 22. Demonstrate how the addition of Forefront Endpoint Protection to Core CAL helps optimize desktops and lower costs.
 • 23. Demonstrate that Forefront Endpoint Protection compares favorably with leading AV vendors.Talking Points:
Forefront Endpoint Protection + System Center Configuration Manager
Simplifies administration by providing a single console for PC deployment, updates and security.
Forefront Endpoint Protection + Windows 7 Enterprise
Centrally manage Windows Firewall and Bitlocker disk encryption settings. This makes data more secure by limiting network-level threats and protects sensitive data in the case of PC theft.
Forefront Endpoint Protection places among leading vendors on industry benchmarks:
#2 in AV Comparatives “On demand” test (8/2010)
 • 24. #3 in AV Comparatives “Proactive” test (6/2010)
