Using an Intranet Within a Company

An intranet within a company uses a firewall to protect its internal email system and corporate databases from external snooping or attacks. The internal email system routes messages within the organization without needing to go through outside networks. Corporate databases are made available over the intranet through web-based documents and search tools to allow employees to search internal data.
