Task 1: Introduction to WebQuests
Definition A WebQuest is defined, by  Bernie Dodge  at San Diego State University, as "an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the Internet."
WebQuests can be... A short assignment lasting only 1 class period or long enough to become a week or month long unit. Done in groups where students take on specific roles or perspectives, can be done individually by students, or can be completed together as an entire class. Completed by using the internet in your classroom, in the library or computer lab, can completed with little or no internet access.
and can also be... Adapted to fit class, group, or individual student skill levels.  Used to introduce, reinforce, conclude, or extend an area of study Easily found online (there are 1000s of already created WebQuests avaliable online) or can be created.
6 Essential Elements 1.  Introduction -introduces activity to students 2.  Task -tells the students what their end-result/project will be 3.  Process -identifies each step of the task 4.  Resources -includes links to sites that will be used in the process 5.  Evaluation -informs students how they will be evaluated, a rubric works great 6.  Conclusion -summarizes what they learned through the WebQuest.
