What is Jing

 Jing is a cross Platform application that can be downloaded for free
 Jing enables anyone to take static screen captures of computer screens
(screen shots) as well as record short videos of on screen action called
screencast.
 These screencasts can instantly be shared with others, whether over the web
or via email
Why use Jing
 You can use training videos for quick and easy access for students
 Have your students record themselves solving problems and then post on your
classroom blog.
The pros of using Jing include
 its free and easy to use, its compatible with PC's and Mac's, its downloadable as an
application, it saves and shares tools and students are able to record narrated
historical, literature or personal journey using Google maps or Earth.
 It provides use of digital story telling tool and creates teaching tutorials (Barnes,
2013). It provides activities such as use of reflection tool to rethink research process
steps and enables communication by effectively supporting students to record their
thought process while they are solving problem.
 Jing is used as a teaching tool when teachers create tutorials by working with the new
technologies, demonstrates how to access class delicious, log in to class wikis and
directory on how to fill out a created Google Docs form.
 Teachers are able to create Screencast in order to publish student work by
use of Jing. It helps teachers to add voice to the class photos so as to share
the classroom activities on class website. Students are able to enjoy creating
voice-over presentations whereby they share with their professors and their
fellow students (Barnes, 2013).
 Students are able to use Jing to record themselves while researching and
presenting their actual findings. The cons of using Jing include third party
application and it’s limited such that it provides a 5 minutes video limit on
free trial and it does not recognize videos which automatically integrate in
YouTube service.
