Writing to persuade, argue
and advice are questions that
are placed in B paper 1
Section B. On the exam day(or
before) you are going to have
to decide which question you
are going to answer.
What are you meant to do?

When you are writing to argue a point of view about
something e.g. the topic abortion and you try to
convince the reader that your point of view is correct.
In your answer you should:
-briefly refer to the other point of view
-use appropriate techniques
-Structure your writing
Good points to use in your writing are: keep your view
clear from the start, when you talk about the other
party’s view point immediately dismiss it to show your
view point is the best, state the reason for your view
and to link your ideas use connectives.
Now advising:

When you are writing to advice you are helping someone to do
something or to behave in a certain way. You should:
organise your ideas, be logical, adopt the right tone, offer
solutions and use examples.

You may not realise it but we give advice all the time for
example when our mates ask us what phone they should buy.

If you don't be logical in your writing your advise wont be as
convincing.
You adopt the right tone to suit different audiences.
Ah, now were where we? Oh yh persuading. Rhetorical
When you write to persuade you try to get the question
reader to do something or believe something. Alliteration
The persuasive techniques that you may use are:
-rhetorical questions
-examples Personal
-anecdotes(story’s) pronoun
-emotive language

A good point to use in your writing is an
appropriate tone to suit the audience.
