KPMG
Calgary -
Advisory
Selec ted in a
final round
interview for
one summer
student
position to
c onduc t
multiple
interviews with
different staff
members at
KPMG
I was selec ted in for a final
round interview, whic h
involved interviews ranging
from 2 hours and up to 5
hours. Due to the timing of
the interviews and my busy
sc hedule, I did not spend
enough time preparing for
these interviews and was
unsuc c essful in the last
interview with KPMG. I did
not realize how intense
these interviews were going
to be and therefore
thought that the effort that I
had put in to the first
interview was enough. I did
not even go through the
c ompany website, nor did I
speak with anyone who
worked at KPMG/ knew
anything about this position
After c ompleting
this sec ond round
interview, I
rec eived a
rejec tion email
stating that I did
not get the job.
You are not going
to land every
position that you
rec eive and
interview for even
if it is the last round
of interviews, but it
is very important
that you prepare
for eac h and
every interview
and know a lot
about the
c ompany. With
that being said, I
think that it is
important to take
all of the
feedbac k that you
c an from the
interview that did
not go so we ll and
strengthen your
weaknesses for the
next one!
Through this proc ess I
rec eived a signific ant
amount of training and
developed my interviewing
skills further. I made multiple
appointments with the BCC
and prepared for future
interviews by c onduc ting
moc k interviews and
rec eiving feedbac k. I then
was able to apply these
skills to the CPA rec ruit
whic h took plac e that
September. I was
suc c essfully able to land a
position at KPMG
Vanc ouver in the Audit
department.

Editor's Notes

  • #7: -We’ve been working a lot on figuring out your strengths -When we shift to skills matrix and employment in general, we want to be talking more about SKILLS -These are my top five strengths, translated into skills -Strengths are like descriptors of an individual, skills are the attributes that someone brings to a job
  • #8: 60% of your story -past behaviour predicts your future behaviour
  • #9: -This is why having a strong skills matrix makes the rest of your term much easier!
