Editor's Notes

  • #10: Reading University have some excellent and detailed guides on using third party apps. Massachusetts has a fantastic overview of third party tools, covering lots of different areas of concern like accessibility and privacy, and also shows how tools align with the SAMR Model (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition) and suggests learning activites the tools are suitable for.
  • #12: Our first area considers whether we already have a tool we DO support that does something similar, and asks why staff may prefer a similar tool compared with one we DO actually support.
  • #22: The overview guide was checked by our legal team.
  • #23: The overview guide was checked by our legal team. Personal data might be name, email address Sensitive = special category data Information Commissioner's Office
  • #24: The overview guide was checked by our legal team.
  • #25: The overview guide was checked by our legal team. There is a concern about how practical it is to avoid using personal information when using an app or online service. I wanted to make it as simple as possible for staff, so they didn’t feel they had to check where data was storred, or read the licence agreements in full (who does?) but by saying only use it if you don’t have to submit information like your name and email address may be too restrictive to be practical?
  • #31: Moral rights in United Kingdom law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_rights_in_United_Kingdom_law …the right to be identified as the author of a work, known as the right of paternity, the right to object to derogatory treatment of a work, known as the right of integrity, the right not to be identified as the author of someone else's work, and the right to privacy. The right of paternity exists for the entire copyright term, and requires individuals who commercially broadcast, sell, perform or exhibit literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works to identify the author of the work – but this does not apply to things such as typefaces, encyclopaedias or works subject to crown copyright.
