Editor's Notes

  • #3: These are formative homework assignments done outside of class.
  • #4: These are being piloted for the BIOC1301 module. They are simply your lecture PowerPoint presentations with questions interposed throughout. The questions can come from test banks or your clicker questions.
  • #5: Instruction page, info on how points are scored, number of attempts, and assigned complementary reading materials.

  • #9: Once the student answers, they get immediate feedback.

  • #12: There is a place for feedback within the slide that will appear if the question is answered incorrectly (this is optional).

  • #20: PowerPoints can be full lectures or parts of lectures (topics)
  • #22: Adobe Captivate is just like PowerPoint, with the ability to add and track quizzes, capture screens and even capture lectures (when used with Adobe Presenter).
  • #23: If you’re into Twitter, there is an optional twitter widget, which allows students to comment on each slide. Those comments are then tweeted to a Twitter acct that you set up (course, lecture). Respond from Twitter, will update questions posed by the students, right on the slide. Instead of just providing a link, embed the YouTube video directly within the lecture. Since it is streaming directly, not violating copyright. What if the video you want is not on YouTube? Embed a web page within the lecture. Student never has to leave the interaction. They can interact directly with the website inside the slide. So, this could also be a web page with a video on it. Several quiz-type games students can play.

  • #25: Exciting part - what SCORM actually does
  • #26: The interaction is on the VLE in a popup window, once the student exits the interaction it immediately sends data to the GC.
  • #27: Scores appear in a column set up when SCORM pkg was uploaded.
  • #28: Get lots of data: Which attempt, the question, their answer, total time spent on the interaction, time spent per slide, overall score. This data will then be compiled into a report and sent to tutors.
  • #29: Flipped classroom: Students complete the online materials outside of class, and come to class ready for practical work or discussion.
  • #31: Keeping students engaged is critical to a successful learning experience, and when we think about how to do this, a logical approach is to look at scenarios where people easily remain engaged.
