Goals for today…
• Overview of how we planned, developed and
implemented this online faculty development
platform
• A closer look at the tools we used within and
outside of D2L, as well as the solutions we found
to some of our issues
• Conversation about what could be better. What
could we improve?
Who are you?? (poll)
Who are you? (And why are you here today?) Please select the option
that best fits:
1. I work in a Teaching and Learning Center
2. I am a faculty member
3. I am an Instructional Designer
4. I am an Administrator
5. I am a trainer (not in an educational setting)
6. I am “other” ….(it’s ok. Not everyone fits into a perfect little box )
Who this Webinar is for…..
1. People Like Us (T&L Center staff who want to track their center’s
impact)
BUT also anyone who wants to:
• Use D2L to archive and share live events
• Award online certificates of completion based on a face to
face interaction
• Learn more about D2L Awards, Release Conditions, or
Intelligent Agents
• Learn about a 3rd party tool for project management (Asana)

The Planning
Process
Assess the needs of
the faculty, as well as
our needs as a center.
More specifically, we
look at the needs to
complete this project.
Survey our
resources:
• Software
(D2l, Asana,
Camtasia,
PowerPoint,
etc.)
• Hardware
• Team skills
• Time

The Planning
Process
• When and how do
we release it?
• What steps do we
take before we
release?
• All at once, or in
phases?

Phase 1:
Introduce
the Hub
Phase 2:
Badges &
Higher Level
Certificates
Phase 3:
Introduce
Engagement
Plan
Implementation
Plan:
• Record video, screen captures & audio of
all workshops.
• Upload workshops, workshop materials,
and feedback survey.
• Auto-release certificates once Feedback
Survey is complete.
Phase 1:
Introduce
the Hub
Spring 2017
• Continue with all from Phase 1
• Add in categories for Badges and
opportunities to collect Badges
• Earn higher level certificates in specific
areas of focus.
Phase 2:
Badges &
Higher Level
Certificates
Fall 2017
• Continue everything from Phase 1 & 2
• Add requirement to obtain Certificate of
Completion. (Participants must complete an
appropriate additional assignment/activity to
further engage w/material.)
• Once assignment/activity is complete, the
Certificate is auto-released.

Process
• What lessons
did we learn?
• What
worked/what
did not?
• What next?

Phase 1: How Did It Go??
Outcomes – Quantitative & Qualitative
• How many faculty were enrolled in the Hub this semester? 84
• How many attended face-to-face workshops? 69 (80%)
• How many have visited content? 44 (50% ish)
• How much time did they spend looking at content? Avg of 21 minutes
• Response Rate for Feedback Surveys? 85% avg
What Did We Learn?....
SOLUTIONPROBLEM
Attendees were not completing
surveys in a timely manner.
Intelligent Agent Template:
Sent to Members of Workshop
Group who did NOT complete
survey (agent runs daily for 1
week)
Participants who supposedly
completed surveys were still
getting automated emails.
Template was altered, with further
instructions about how to
COMPLETELY submit survey.
Phase 1: How Did It Go??
Outcomes – Qualitative
Feedback Quotes:
• “Love the Hub. Need to get used to using it, but it makes access so easy!”
• “As the list of archived workshops grows, categorize them for easy searching.”
• “LOVE IT! It is very easy to use.”
• “Good, but don’t have time to fully explore it.”
• “Its simple enough. Please make the feedback survey immediately accessible
before the participants get sucked into the class/meeting/prep/grading black
hole.”
• “The Hub is practical and saves time.”
• “Great idea. I’m glad we finally have a way to track what we’ve been
participating in and a one stop shop to refer back to anytime we need.”
• “I like the easy access to workshop handouts.”
SOLUTIONPROBLEM
Still many aspects that are NOT
automated. Requiring time and
expertise to handle. (e.g. Quiz
Creation)
Train fabulous Student Workers to
help us with these details.
Technology (especially video and
audio equipment) mishaps,
failures and all-around
frustrations.
Trial and error, redundancies and
training. PRACTICE, PRACTICE,
PRACTICE.
What Did We Learn?....
SOLUTIONPROBLEM
Non-faculty are not currently in
the D2L system, and therefore
require a work-around to give
them access.
???
What Did We Learn?....
No good way to search content by
subject matter, or index for those
who don’t know what they’re
looking for
What’s Next?
• Create Hub for next year: deciding how best to organize it for
a full academic year
• Roll out 2nd phase: badges and higher level certificates
• Training for Student Workers (to help with aspects not
automated)
• For Spring Semester: Roll out Engagement Plan which will
include further requirements to gain certificates
