This document presents a study and simulation of an AC/DC microgrid system with a hybrid converter. The microgrid integrates renewable energy sources like solar and wind with the utility grid to meet increasing energy demands. A boost derived hybrid converter is used that can supply both AC and DC loads from a single DC source. The hybrid converter topology and a microgrid system with solar, wind, battery storage and loads are modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results show the potential of the proposed hybrid system to power an isolated area by meeting its electricity demands. A 25W prototype is also tested to validate the hybrid system operation.
