REVIEW- Q and A
1. What is communication?
2. How the communication is
being processed? Explain
briefly.
Discussion: Communication Models
Models of communication
are diagrams that make you
understand the process at a
glance. They are like maps
that guide you in
understanding how
communication works in
different settings.
Purpose of Models
describes the process of communication
shows visually the relationship among
variables
helps in finding and in correcting
communication problems
VARIOUS MODELS OF
COMMUNICATION
Aristotle’s Model
“Aristotle’s Model of Communication” is the earliest
mass communication model before 300 B.C.
This model is more focused on public speaking than
interpersonal communication with the five basic elements
namely the speaker, speech, occasion, audience, and
effect.

model.html
Linear Model
An information is transmitted from the sender to
the receiver passing through a channel without
the sender receiving any feedback
Sender Message Receiver
Interactive Model
Instances that shape and maintain social
relations and identities and express the
speaker’s attitude toward the topic or toward
the interlocutors (Brown and Yule, 1983).
Feedback is evident.

Transactional Model
Involves primarily in the transmission of
information or the exchange of goods and
services (Brown and Yule, 1983). In the
Transactional Model, receiver and sender can
play the same roles simultaneously, as
sometimes happens, as messages can be sent
back and forth simultaneously.

Harold Dwight Lasswell’s Model
The model describes the act of communication
by defining who said it, what was said, in what
channel it was said, to whom it was said, and
with what effect it was said.
This verbal communication model has
been referred to as a linear, uni-directional and
a one-way process.
Claude Elwood Shannon and
Warren Weaver’ s Model
It is originally intended to show how radio and
telephone technologies function.

Components of Shannon and Weaver’s
Communication Model
(Padilla et.al., 2016)
1. information source
2. message
3. transmitter (mouth for sounds and
body for gestures)
4. signal (sounds and signals turn to
words, electric signals, radio waves)
5. channel (carrier such as air, light,
radio waves, paper and postal
systems)
6. noise (problems that affect effective
listening)
7. receiver (ears for sounds, eyes for
gestures, telephone in a telephone
conversation)
8. destination (usually a person)
Wilbur Schramm’s Model in 1954
It explains how meaning is transferred between
communicators.
