FreeBSD 7.0 is the upcoming major release of the FreeBSD operating system, featuring significant updates and new features aimed at enhancing multi-processor support through the completion of the SMPNG project. Key improvements include a fully parallelized kernel, numerous enhancements across the filesystem, networking, CPU architectures, and security subsystems, along with performance boosts in various applications, notably for PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. The release also introduces support for new hardware and a variety of user-level improvements with over 18,000 code changes.
