• #2: Over the course of this little presentation, I’d like to give you an overview of Ergochair and a flavour of what our chairs are all about!
• #3: Our MD has had over 20 years experience of manufacturing office seating Supplied DWP & MOD for 3 yrs 8 yrs ago whilst at PPS – he became aware of the increasing requirement for seating to accommodate a particular need. He also became aware of & researched the Access to Work scheme finding that our products would be an ideal fit for the aims & objectives of AtW scheme. Ergochair was set up in 2003 to provide a UK manufactured, specialist seating solution focusing on individual issues & on-off products Since it’s inception, Ergochair has designed & produced specialist seating ranges which have evolved into the Adapt range This has been widely & successfully sold throughout the UK via our network of re-sellers and business partners
• #4: Firstly, to give an overview of the Adapt concept...it’s pretty simple really! … because every one of us is unique & differently proportioned – we aren’t made to a standard specification, so we didn’t see why our chairs should be! The Adapt range has been designed and built with maximum adjustment in mind and with individually designed supports, they allow the correct posture to be comfortable. This can also be achieved through our comprehensive, bespoke fitting questionnaire.
• #5: - Our range of chairs is tested to BS5459 standard by SATRA - We also have ISO 9001:2000 accreditation to ensure that our quality procedures are upheld - We are now recommended and trusted by Physiotherapists throughout the UK and the Adapt name is known by health professionals and Ergonomists - Our lead times are approx 10 days and fastest within the UK
• #6: From the very start, our aim has been to create a problem solving range of chairs for people that just aren’t catered for by the standard contract chair market. The Adapt range has been created with the end user in mind. The range spent longer than average in the design phase in order to ensure that the end product was completely user friendly and ergonomically sound. We believe that this range of chairs can accommodate a broad spectrum of special requirements ranging from mild to moderate back pain/upper limb disorders to moderate/severe disability including wheelchair users with some additional modifications…which I’ll come on to in a moment! Normally, a chair made to specifically for one person would be cost prohibitive. The fact that the Adapt chairs are so modular by design and the method we use of applying the user’s measurements as a manufacturing template means we can produce a chair with unique comfort zones at an affordable price. Retail prices range from £290 - £485 for the basic chair price to which we then add the Adaptations and adjustments as required. An average price for a typical complete chair with mild to moderate adjustments is likely to be in the region of £700 - £900 Retail, to which we apply a re-seller discount of up to 40%
• #7: The Adapt chairs have a great many functions fitted as standard which include: An asynchronous seat tilt/back angle adjustment mechanism – this means that you can fully adjust the chair to the angle that encourages good posture whilst making you as comfortable as possible. Seat depth adjustment – this is in the form of a seat-slide facility giving a range of 5 cm – to any standard seat size or indeed customised seat size All Adapt chairs come with a memory foam seat as standard – our customers have told us that this makes for a ‘very comfortable bottom’ experience We include an inflatable lumbar support in all Adapt chairs which can be positioned to fit the Lumbar Lordosis of the particular end user. Finally, it sounds basic but all our chairs come with a seat height adjustment and back height adjustment facility! As you’d expect!
• #8: Adaptations – There are a great many things we can do to further enhance the supreme comfort of the Adapt chairs, which are pictured here. Head-Rests & Neck-Rolls to provide additional support to the base of the neck and the head A leg rest for users with a lower limb disorder (single or double available) Leg rests are height and angle adjustable and can be upholstered to match your Adapt chair Split Seat option for users who may have a fused knee joint or perhaps one leg shorter than the other. The split seat is adjustable in increments of 10 degrees up to a maximum of 40 degrees Arm Options – whether for comfort or total lateral support we can provide an arm rest solution that meets the need!
• #9: Part of the magic of the Adapt range is that we can actively modify them by using a range of air-cells which are inflatable via either a hand pump or a small battery powered pump. We can use these air-cells for thoracic support, thigh supports, enhanced reactive lumbar support or to modify the shape of one side of the chair to provide balance and assist with symmetry. These would be placed in accordance with recommendations from an occupational therapist or other professional following an assessment.
• #10: The fact that office chairs are mobile is both a positive and a negative point. Great that your chair moves with you….except that at times you may not want it to! We’ve designed our Movement Lock to assist people with restricted mobility….wheelchair users for example… to help them get into and out of their Adapt chair more easily by providing additional stability. It’s operated by a small electric hand pump which inflates air-cells that then lower 5 non-slip feet onto the ground. These little feet make contact with the floor, breaking the contact between the chair castors and the floor. This prevents the chair from free-wheeling as easily and means that the user can effectively immobilise the chair whilst they get in & out Once seated, the pump can deflate the air-cells, retracting the feet and returning the chair to it’s original free-wheel state - The movement lock is provided with an anti-swivel gas stem to provide additional stability
• #11: Finally, we want to stress that there is very little we can’t achieve in modification of an Adapt chair and are happy to be put to the test. We won’t recommend any alterations that compromise the function, safety or ergonomics of the chair as we are keen to promote correct posture in line with our company values.
