Akij Group is one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh, founded in the 1940s by Sheikh Akijuddin as a jute trading business. Sheikh Akijuddin came from a humble background and worked to support his family from a young age. In 2009, Akij Group had a turnover of 89 billion Taka and was Bangladesh's largest taxpayer, contributing 2% to the national budget.
