WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE(AI)?
• Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human
intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like
humans and mimic their actions.
• The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits
traits associated with a human mind such as learning and
problem-solving.
• The goals of artificial intelligence include learning,
reasoning, and perception.
HISTORY OF AI 1950-1956
• John McCarthy invented the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ in the
year 1950.
• In 1950 Alan Turing published a landmark paper in which he
speculated about the possibility of creating machines that think.
The Turing Test was the first serious proposal in the philosophy
of artificial intelligence.
• The field of artificial intelligence research was founded as an
academic discipline in 1956.
• The Dartmouth Workshop of 1956 proposal for the conference
included this assertion: "every aspect of learning or any other
feature of intelligence can be so precisely described that a
machine can be made to simulate it".
ADVANTAGES OF AI
1. Reduction in Human Error.
2. Zero Risks
3. 24x7 Availability
4. Digital Assistance
5. Unbiased Decisions
DISADVANTAGES OF AI
1. High Costs
2. No creativity
3. Increase in Unemployment
4. Make Humans Lazy
5. No Ethics
APPLICATIONS OF A.I
• E-Commerce(Personalized Shopping, Fraud Prevention)
• Education(Creating Smart Content, Voice Assistants)
• Lifestyle(Facial Recognition, Smart Filters)
• Navigation(Uber , OLA, Redbus)
• Healthcare(Discovery of new drugs)
• Automobiles(vehicle’s camera, radar, cloud services, GPS)
• Social Media(Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
• Robotics(Defence, Industry)
ROBOTICS
• Robotics is an interdisciplinary branch of computer
science and electronic engineering.
• Robotics involves design, construction, operation, and use
of robots.
• The goal of robotics is to design machines that can help
and assist humans.
• Robotics integrates fields of Mechanical, Electrical,
Mechatronics, Electronics, CS/IT,
Software Engineering, Mathematics, etc.
WHY IS ROBOTICS IMPORTANT?
• In these modern days, we need to fast as possible.
• There will be a limit in productivity if human works.
• We get tired after a couple of hours and need a break.
• But in the case of robots, they can work continuously with less
supervision.
• These qualities make robots and robotics a necessity in this fast-
growing world.
ROBOT
• A Robot is a machine especially
one programmable by a computer—
capable of carrying out a complex series of
actions automatically.
• A robot can be guided by an external
control device, or the control may be
embedded within.
• Robots may be constructed to
evoke Human form, but most robots are
task-performing machines, designed with an
emphasis on stark functionality, rather than
expressive aesthetics.
HISTORY OF ROBOT
• Mr. Norbert Wiener formulated the basic principles of cybernetics in
1948. It was the basis of practical robotics for the first time. He just
opened the door to modern robotics in the early 1950s.
• In the second half of the 20th century, fully autonomous robots
started to appear.
• A digitally operating robot “Unimate” was built in 1961.It was the
very first digitally operated robot.
• The robot used to pick hot pieces of metal from a die casting machine
and stack them.
TYPES
• Industrial robots
• Domestic robots
• Military and emergency response robots
• Medical robots
• Service robots
• Security robots
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & ROBOTICS
Industrial robots
• The types of industrial robots in service today vary greatly, but they are usually
programmable, articulated arms that are stationary yet capable of moving on various axes.
• They are used in a number of applications in the manufacture of goods, such as welding,
painting and assembly.
Domestic robots
• These robots are used to perform household chores and include pool cleaning robots,
vacuum cleaners and gutter cleaning robots.
• Guardforce Hong Kong based company also supplies cleaning robots suitable for larger,
commercial premises.
Medical robots
• In robot-assisted surgery, the surgeon controls a robot, either through a
telemanipulator or computer, to perform very delicate medical procedures; therefore,
reducing the risks involved.
• In the future, a surgeon may even be able to perform robot-assisted operations
remotely from anywhere in the world.
Service robots
• The most common types of service robots you will see are concierge robots and
hospitality robots.
• A concierge robot automates visitor registration, controls access points through
facial recognition and offers multi-media information, making it perfect for
commercial buildings, events and exhibitions.
Security robots
• Security robots offer significant advantages as they are able to operate 24/7, day or
night and in adverse weather conditions.
• Security robots patrol on preset routes, provide remote CCTV surveillance with
facial recognition, supply information and can even detect abnormal temperatures
and gas leaks.
Military and emergency response robots
• Robots are ideal for use in the military or for emergency response where the
situation may be too dangerous for humans.
• The military use bomb disposal robots and drones among others, and emergency
response teams use aerial, ground and underwater search and rescue robots.
• These types of robots are able to endure harsh conditions and traverse difficult
terrain.
TYPES OF MILITARY ROBOTS
• Military Transportation Robots
• Search And Rescue Military Robots
• Fire Fighting Military Robots
• Mine Clearance Military Robots
• Surveillance And Reconnaissance Military Robots
• Armed Military Robots
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & ROBOTICS
Military Transportation Robots
• These robotic soldiers perform transportation roles.
• They can help the soldiers in the transportation of bombs, artillery, military supplies,
and other materials.
• Although these military robots commonly have wheels, some of them come with
legs instead of performing on rough terrains.
Search And Rescue Military Robots
• The use of these types of military robots is for search and rescue missions.
• A robot army can be of big help in search and rescue mission inside water and
wilderness.
• They equally come handy when there are floods, wildfires, and wreckages during an
earthquake.
Fire Fighting Military Robots
• This type of robot soldiers can be of great use when there is fire. It
can help to save the human soldier from life threat.
• The firefighting military robots are the type of robots that can be
linked up with a hydrant to help in extinguishing the fire.
Mine Clearance Military Robots
• This type of battle robots is useful in very risky situations that can cost
human lives.
• There are many war robots weapons utilized around the world today.
They are commonly remote-controlled. Also, the operator is from a
far distance to ensure his safety.
Surveillance And Reconnaissance Military Robots
• These robotic soldiers are essential in spying the enemy.
• Many military robots are useful in surveillance and investigative missions.
Armed Military Robots
These are types of military robots have weapons to shoot people.
• Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Robots
These battle robots are flying robots designed for investigative missions. Also, their
use is for surveillance missions. Future robots may include unmanned fighters and
bombers.
• Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) Robots
The majority of the military robot types that we have discussed are UGVs. These
robots are robots that operate on the ground.
• Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) Robots
These robotic soldiers can swim underwater.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & ROBOTICS
CONCLUSION
• Today we find most robots working for people in industries, factories,
warehouses, and laboratories. Therefore, having robots helps business
owners to be competitive, because robots can do jobs better and faster
than humans can, e.g. robot can built, assemble a car.
• Finally, as the technology improves, there will be new ways to use
robots which will bring new hopes and new potentials.
