Two posters and an animated video are being developed to raise awareness of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) amongst farmers in Thrace, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The posters will highlight FMD clinical signs and transmission in Greek, Bulgarian, and Turkish, while the 5-minute video will cover susceptible species, trade impacts, signs, transmission, and reporting of FMD in English, Greek, Bulgarian, and Turkish. Distribution methods of both physical posters and digital sharing on social media will be considered. Voiceovers for the video still need to be recorded in the four languages. The materials aim to increase passive surveillance and reporting of FMD and other diseases through farmer education.

- #3: So why are we interested in using awareness materials? Well our current surveillance standards are based on ACTIVE surveillance. Veterinary staff actively go into the field to test and examine animals for FMD. These results go into a statistical model and help sustain the >95% disease freedom currently maintained by all Thrace countries.
- #4: But what else factors into surveillance of FMD in Thrace countries? Reporting of suspect FMD by farmers. We are hoping through the use of targeting educational materials, we can increase our passive surveillance for FMD, and increase reporting of suspect FAST diseases to veterinary and government officials in Thrace countries.
- #6: Less talking points and more things for brief discussion/consideration by countries. We want them to really think about how best to get these materials out and about.
