The document discusses BIM project execution plans and open BIM standards. It analyzes the export of building elements from four BIM authoring tools (Bentley AECOsim, Nemetschek Allplan, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Autodesk Revit) to the IFC2x3 file format. It finds that Bentley AECOsim had the best average results with 78.57% of concepts supported, while Autodesk Revit had the worst at 50%. As the number of building elements and tools increases, the number of unsupported IFC2x3 items grows exponentially, so interoperability issues must be addressed in execution plans.

BIM Project Execution Plans and Open BIM via IFC2x3 13BIC2016 | Lisbon • As the number of building elements and/or the number of BIM authoring tools rises, the number of unsupported IFC2x3 items increases too. • Unsupported items start rising linearly, but soon experience an exponential growth. • Therefore, interoperability issues should be addressed thoroughly in BIM Execution Plans prior to any modeling, in order to anticipate and minimize – at a lower cost – potential problems that may arise. • The ideal (utopian?) situation would reveal a flat number of unsupported items – tending to zero – regardless the number of building elements and/or BIM authoring tools that are employed in the project.
