Book Talk
Suggested Mechanics and assessment tool for Book Talk
Standard Rules: Everyone must speak in pure English (no TAGLISH allowed); Book talkers must show their books and some visuals
(pictures or main points) during the session. The book talkers must prepare the Suggested Evaluation form for Book Talkers.
The listeners shall prepare a one half sheet of paper (length wise)
The Process:
1. PRELIMINARY TEASER
a. Book talker shall give an appetizing talk (30 seconds) that invites the classmates to attend to his/her session.
2. BOOK TALK SESSION
a. Book talker (BT) shall give the highlights only about the book in 3 minutes.
b. The listeners shall ask their questions or clarifications in five minutes.
c. On one half lengthwise, the listeners shall write their intakes and their rating to their designated BT as follows:
i. One question related to the story
ii. One take away
iii. Rating to facilitator (BT) as either , , .
iv. Two sentences stating one strong point to maintain and one weak point to improve on the one evaluation
sheet of the book talker.
3. EVALUATION
The BT’s collect all length-wise papers (1/2 sheets) within their group and rate the listeners as either , , .
After the first round has finished, a second round will follow. The listeners will go to another session of their choice
accomplishing the same requirement on same paper. There shall be three to five rounds depending on the decision of the
teacher/or of the students concerned.
