- 3. Explorer Christopher Columbus was born in Italy in 1451. He was a great explorer and sailor. He traveled a lot. As a result of his many voyages h e discovered many new places. When Christopher Columbs was 13 years old he went to sea . He found sea journeys very exciting. Very s oon he became an expert sailor.
- 4. A new route Christopher Columbs wanted to find a new route to China. He believed he could reach the Far East to China by sailang west. That was a new idea in 1492 . But he had no money and ships. He decided to ask the kings and gueen of Spain to give him the money.
- 5. First voyage In 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail on his first voyage from Spain. At first, he had three ships. They were called Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean for 69 days. Finally he saw an island. He named the island San Salavador. Columbus also expored other islands in the area. He discovered Hispaniola and Cuba. He thought he had reachade Asia. So he colled the people he met in the islands Indians.
- 6. In 1493,Christopher Columbus made his second voyage. That time he sailed with 17 ships and over a thousand men. He discovered a new island and named it Dominica. Then he explored Jamaica, Puerto Rico and southern Cuba. He set up the first Spanish colony in Hispaniola. In 1496 he sailed back to Spain. The voyage seemed to be very successful. Second Voyage
- 7. In 1498,Christhopher Columbs made his third voyage. This time he had only six s h ips. He discovered the continent of South America. He explored the coast of Venezuela. He also discovered Trinidad. Third Voyage
- 8. In 1502, he set out on his last voyage. This time he had only four ships but the voyage was very fruitful . He discovered Central America. He explored the coasts of Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Fourth Voyage
- 9. Christopher Columbus ran into a storm during his last voyage. His ships were damaged. No one came to help him and his crew. Eventually, he was stuck in Jamaica for a year. In 1504 he left for Spain for the last time. Stuck in Jamaica
- 10. Christopher Columbus died in 1506. In fact, he was a very good sailor and a great explorer. How could the world honor him? Many cities and streets in Europe and America are named after him. In many towns and cities you can find statues of Christofer Columbus. Conclusion
