This document summarizes the design, simulation, fabrication, and testing of a microstrip patch antenna for use in the L-band frequency range of 1-2 GHz. A rectangular patch antenna was designed, modeled in IE3D software using a coaxial feed technique, and optimized to achieve a return loss of -27.439 dB and axial ratio of 0.37 dB at 1.176 GHz. The simulated antenna was then fabricated on an FR-4 substrate and tested, showing measured return loss of -29.752 dB and VSWR of 1.0327, matching well with the simulation results. Radiation patterns and gain were also measured and found to meet design specifications for use in the L-band frequency range.
