English:  Engineering A Course Overview Ruppin Academic Center Semester “Aleph” 2009-2010 Debbie Lahav Reception Hours: Tuesdays:18:00-18:30
Why English for  Engineering Students? The main objective of the Advanced English Course for students of engineering is to  develop the skills and strategies necessary to independently cope with authentic academic texts in English , both as students at Ruppin College and as future professionals.
Teaching Points, Skills and Strategies Rhetorical devices and academic text genres Pre-reading strategies While-reading strategies Post-reading strategies Vocabulary-building strategies Presentation / oral skills Writing skills Performance tasks
Course Materials 1. Texts and Activities All articles and activities will be downloaded from the course site on Moodle.  Keep your materials in a notebook and bring it to class. Some activities will be done on Moodle. 2. Dictionaries :  Any dictionary, including electronic dictionaries.  Bring your dictionary to every class. 3. Notebook, Pens, Pencils and Highlighters Bring to every class.
All materials will be on Moodle.  Texts and some activities will be printed out and brought to class. Some activities will be done and submitted directly through Moodle. Announcements will be posted on Moodle regularly. Check the Moodle site regularly. If you have a “Moodle” problem, contact Bluma  [email_address] Our Moodle Site
 
Course Rules 1.  Course attendance is compulsory. If you miss 20% or more of the lessons you will be dropped from the course. You are expected to  come to class on time .  There is  no make-up  work.  If you do not do a homework assignment (or do not submit it on time), in-class assignment, or quiz, you will receive a " zero " ( 0 ) grade for that task.
Course Rules 2.  Communication: You must have an active email address.   Check Moodle regularly. Check your email regularly, read your messages and reply when necessary. If you have any questions or need to contact me, please feel free to email me and I will reply promptly.  [email_address]
