Geo-Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) 4-weeks training on Fundamentals of Geographic Information System (GIS) Course Objectives A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyse, manage, and present spatial or geographic data. GIS applications are tools that allow users to create interactive queries (user-created searches), analyse spatial information, edit data in maps, and present the results of all these operations. GIS sometimes refers to geographic information science, the science underlying geographic concepts, applications, and systems. Geographic Information System has gained increased importance and widespread acceptance as tools for decision-making in planning in developing countries because of its wide range of applications in natural resources and environmental managements.
