Frustrated Off-Task  Students
Frustrated Overwhelmed Teachers
What is the solution?
OrganizationThe instruction described in the following project was specifically designed for use at the Donegal High School in the Donegal School District in Mount Joy, Pa.
ProblemInstructional time is wasted during activities utilizing laptops because students do not know how to correct common technology errors.
Need Students need direct instruction of troubleshooting strategies.
Goal When experiencing log in or network connectivity problems, the learners will be able to diagnose and implement solutions to the problems without teacher intervention.
Objective of Instruction Given a content area classroom of varying grade levels equipped with a Windows based laptop cart of 30 wireless laptops, learners will diagnose and implement solutions to basic connectivity and login problems without teacher intervention in order to maximize classroom productivity.

The LearnerDescriptionThe target population 9th graders
Varying ability levels and access to technology
A survey of students will be given to determine prior knowledge and ability level.The Learner  Entry Skills Learners will be able to apply basic computer vocabulary in authentic situations.
Learners will be able to control the computer through manipulation of accessories (i.e. mouse and keyboard).
Learners will be able to control computer through application of basic computer functions such as power button and start menu. The Learner  Entry Skills Entry Skills will be verified by the Technology Experience Survey.
Training Program  7 consecutive sessions
Classroom equipped with Windows based wireless laptops, laptop equipped with ActivInspire software, projector and Promethean Board
Media will include paper handouts and organizers as well as Flipchart versions projected onto the Promethean Board.Training Program  Learners will be grouped by grade. Groups will include various ability levels across the 9th grade. Learners will be positioned in rows facing the board with at least one learner on either side for collaboration.
