- 7. The Process and Practice approaches to K.M PROCESS APPROACH Explicit Knowledge-codified in rules, tools, and processes. Provide structure to harness generated ideas and knowledge. Fails to tap into tacit knowledge may limit innovation and forces participants into fixed patterns of thinking. Required heavy investment in I.T to connect people with reusable codified knowledge. PRACTICE APPROACH Mostly tacit knowledge-unarticulated knowledge not easily captured or codified. Provides an environment to generate and transfer high-value tacit knowledge. Can result in inefficiency. Abundance of ideas with no structure to implement them. Required moderate investment in I.T to facilitate conversations and transfer of tacit knowledge. OMega TechEd
- 8. Hybrid Approach The Practice approach is used so that a repository (warehouse) stores only explicit knowledge, that is relatively easy to document. Tacit knowledge initially stored in the repository is contact information about experts and their areas of expertise. Most KMS are incorporating elements of both. OMega TechEd
