
 Books:
 Periodicals- Newspapers, magazines, journals etc
 Unpublished materials
 Electronic Resources
 Electronic journals
 Online databases
 Computer/local databases
 CD-ROM
 Electronic books
Information Resources in Library

 Information on the internet is not reviewed. Anyone can
publish, so information is not as reliable. As Information
from your library
 While the internet has a lot of recent news, it is not a good
place to find older information or primary sources
 Libraries pay for access to databases. The information you
can get from the library cannot be found on the internet.
Additionally, not everything on the internet is free. The
same article is FREE through the Library

 Information on the internet is not
comprehensive or organized like
it is in the library.
 Sources on the internet are
difficult to verify. Library housed
published and verifiable sources.
 The internet is a mile wide and an
inch deep. The library can
provide more detailed
information.
 Librarians are professionals
trained to help you find the
information you need.

 We in the library are there
to provide services to you.
That is the reason why we
are working in the library.
 We strive to build positive
relations with our students,
and to make the library play
a part in creating a better
tomorrow for you

make use of library resources
and services, adequately and to
their own satisfaction;
 to help library users to feel at
home in the library and trust the
competency of the library staff;
 to enable library users to become
skilled at finding
information and thus foster
feelings of confidence and

 The Library has Institute
Librarian, Librarian 1, library
assistants, and porters.
 The institute Librarian is in charge
of the Library. Other library staff
assists users in:
 Searching and retrieving
information
 Issuing out and receiving library
materials
 Provision of special services such
as scanning, lamination, and
photocopying,
 Allocating Library equipment,
and study carrels.

 Electronic library/Computer room
 Open study/reading areas and
carrels
 Newspaper reading area
 Library users are free to visit or
take any available seat or reading
desk in any of the sections/areas.
Sections of the Library:

 As part of your studies you are required to
supplement whatever you learn in classes, fields,
laboratories, etc. with information available in the
Library. You need to know how best to use the
library by familiarising yourself it .
 Consult the librarian and other staff for assistance on
your information needs.
 Consult the library catalogue and other index.
Library catalogues are a listing of all what is
contained in the library in classified and alphabetical
order.
Using the Library

 Payment of school fees and
other levies.
 Completion of registration
formalities and possession of
valid school identity card
 Registration with the library.
 The library opens between 8.00am
and 4.00pm, Monday through
Friday
Conditions for using the
Library
 The following are some of the regulations:
 No eating or drinking in the Library.
 Library materials must be handled with care; no scribbling, soiling dog-hearing,
tearing, defacing and turning down pages.
 Noise must be minimized to maintain a good study environment.
 Cell phone use in the library is not permitted.
 Games or offensive materials on the library computers are prohibited.
 Leave folders, hats, bags, umbrellas at the porter’s desk
 Library collections are for reference only. They are not to be taken out of the
library except with the permission of the librarian.
 The Librarian reserves the right to withdraw or refuse library facilities to anyone
who contravenes the library regulations.
 In summary, treat the library and its contents with care and respect and it
will serve you and future students well!
