Networking For Business People

       (what Linkedin is NOT)
-Or-

Linkedin is geared more towards the
       business professional
What is LinkedIn?
• LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional
network with over 175 million members and
growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your
trusted contacts and helps you exchange
knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a
  broader network of professionals.
It’s All About The Connections
   it’s called math…..
  1st-degree - People you're directly connected
to because you have accepted their invitation
to connect, or they have accepted your
  invitation.

2nd-degree - People who are connected to your
  1st-degree connections.

3rd-degree - People who are connected to your
  2nd-degree connections.
This is what I’m going on about -
 the math…. !
this is just an estimate, but could be very true…
                           Connections

     Third Degree

    Second Degree
                                                    Connections

      First Degree

                     0 200000 400000 600000
Why LinkedIn? – already covered the math -
• The number of members continues to increase
• It’s referral-friendly (and easy to refer/get referred)
• Profiles are easily comparable and searchable*
• It offers many professional learning groups
• It’s Free!
• It can also double as a sales lead building tool
How?
• Join – go to linkedin.com & grab an account – now!
• Create a Profile
  – Upload a picture (please, nothing cute)
  – Edit “Basic Information”
  – Use industry keywords in your headline
  – Write a thoughtful summary that describes how you
can help your target audience (clients, etc)
Linkedin - You Should Be On LInkedin
Dos and Don’ts
• Do try to connect with those you know
• Don’t try to connect with just anyone (spam & IDK)
• Do join groups
• Don’t spam groups with tons of offers, etc.
• Do post useful and interesting articles (appropriate
  for that group)
• Don’t mention your cousin’s boozy birthday bash
Get Some Connections!
You know the name of everyone at CSBP – get their
card and search for them on Linkedin. You will
need their email address so Linkedin doesn’t think
you’re spamming. I sincerely HOPE that all CSBP
members won’t IDK the other members!!
Linkedin - You Should Be On LInkedin
Join Groups!
Depending on how you want to use Linkedin, there’s
  probably several groups for you!
Remember – you can communicate with other
members of the groups you belong to even if they
  are not in your network!!
