This paper introduces a novel descriptor called Local Gray Code Pattern (LGCP) for facial expression recognition, which effectively captures both texture and contrast information. The LGCP technique demonstrates superior performance in recognition rates compared to existing methods, such as Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Gabor filters, particularly under various environmental conditions. Experiments utilizing datasets like CK+ and JAFFE indicate that the LGCP method offers improved stability in the presence of noise and enhances facial feature extraction.
