Math and Science
 Math: Study of numbers, equations, functions, and their relationship.
 Science: Study of structure and behavior of the physical and natural
world through observation and experiment.
 Importance: Public awareness and understanding the importance
of both subjects through high quantity instruction. We use math and
science everyday. It requires the students to think critically to come
up with solutions to problems.
 Role in 21st Century: Students need to not only memorize the data,
but they should know how to apply it. This lets them use the
information that they have learned to help solve problems that they
may face. Learning how to use these skills help promote STEM-
related careers through 21st century.
Implementing Technology
tools to promote the pillar.
• Arts and Bots
• Podcasts
• Twitter
• Storytelling
• Posters
Arts and Bots
 You can use arts and bots to teach about the importance of math and
science. You can tell the students that without math or science, these bots
would not work. You can introduce physics and/or engineering into your
arts and bots. Really your students can make various types of robots related
to science and/or math. Arts and Bots is also a great way for students to
test their problem solving skills. Their imagination is their only limit.
Podcasts
 You can use podcasts as a little study guide for your students. They may
never read or look over their textbooks to study for a test, but they are
more likely to listen to a podcast of the material on their iPhones. This way
they actually have a fun way to study that is easily available to them.
Twitter
 Instead of having the students sit in the classroom all day learning about
plants, you can use Twitter to have the students catalog various species of
plants by taking a picture of them with their phones and tweeting them
with a certain hashtag. You can then bring up the pictures the students
took with their phones and talk about these in the classroom.
Storytelling
 You can use storytelling as a way for students to learn the anatomy of the
body or their times tables. Just a simple catchy tune with some pictures go
a long way. You’re students are more likely to remember things if they
can’t get it out of their heads!

Posters
 You can have the students make posters for a animal cell, but instead of
making it look exactly accurate, use clipart or pictures found on the web to
represent certain characteristics of the cell. Have you ever seen a cell
made up of a picture of an egg or a tennis ball used as a nucleus?
Technology Example
 As on what technology we would use too teach students in the math and
science pillar is the movie maker tool that we also did in class.
 We would use movie maker because it gives the students a chance too
engage and get hands on and involved with the topic at hand.
 As for an assignment using movie maker in math for instance we could
have the students present the pivot theorem by making a movie on how
they learn the theorems best and teach there ways too the class.
 As for science it would be virtually the same thing we would have the
student make a movie using movie maker and for example the topic could
be newton's law and have the student make a movie on what and how it
works too them personally then watch them as a class and discuss such
topics and develop our movie making and video editing skills as a class
Conclusion
 We discovered that focusing on math and science in the 21st century is
extremely important. The skills developed by these subjects give students
great problem solving skills that are some of the most important skills
needed for the real world. We as teachers need to make math and
science more fun for the students. We need to encourage these students
to discover and invent.
