Why is your web identity important?
 It is important to
  understand the
  implications of what you
  post online.
 Web searches are easily
  available to anyone with
  internet access.
 The information that
  you have made available
  about yourself in the
  past and today can
  impact your future.
My Research Results
 Information   on my athletic career (stats,
  highlights, articles, NCSU athletic site
  gopack.com)
 Links to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest
  accounts
 Information posted to the NCSU College of
  Education Website
Melton Web Identity Presentation
Facebook
I  deleted my Facebook account recently
  because my interest in using it dwindled.
 I did not have any inappropriate material on
  my Facebook page, but it is not something that
  I wanted to be a part of my professional
  identity.
Twitter
I  am relatively new to Twitter (6 months).
 I am selective about who I follow and who I
  allow to follow me.
 I prefer to protect my tweets for privacy and
  use Twitter as a personal form of social
  networking with people that I know.
Pinterest
I  love browsing Pinterest, but I did not like
  that the link to my site came up in a search
  engine.
 I decided to disable that feature in my settings.
 Unfortunately, there is no way to make your
  Pinterest page private so just be aware of the
  information that you repin!
Building a Professional Web Identity
I do not see myself making any changes to my
 online identity as of now. I plan on keeping my
 social networking sites personal and private,
 but possibly creating a educational resource
 through an alternative Twitter account in the
 future.

  • 2. Why is your web identity important?  It is important to understand the implications of what you post online.  Web searches are easily available to anyone with internet access.  The information that you have made available about yourself in the past and today can impact your future.
