Message & medium
Message is the information that is
exchanged between sender and receiver. It is
the” core idea” that you wish to
communicate. The first task is to decide
what you want to communicate and what
would be the content of your message. what
are the main points of your message and
what other information to include. While
writing the message, encoder should keep in
mind all aspects of context and the receiver
The central idea of the message must be
clear.
A message may be consist of verbal (written or
spoken)

or non-verbal (unspoken) symbols.
Each message has a specific purpose:
to convey important facts or information
to persuade the receiver to accept or reject
 certain conditions or actions
to motivate the receiver to act in a specific way
to stimulate discussion about a particular issue,
 or
to entertain the receiver
Messages can have many other purposes, like
instructing, warning, greeting, or requesting
                information.
Message & medium
Medium is the channel through which
encoder will communicate his message.
There are two different terms:
Medium
Channel
A Sender conveys the Message to the
Receiver By some medium (i.e. written, oral or
non-verbal), Over some channel (i.e. electronic
means, printed media, physical signs).

Hence, Medium is a broader term including
appropriate channel to succeed
Communication.
The choice the right medium, depends upon
several factors:
0 importance of the message

0 Cost

0 Urgency

0 need for feedback
0 When communicating within an organization
 the written media can be
 memo, reports, posters, notes, employee
manuals. oral communication can be in the
 form of face to face
 discussions, presentations, audio
 tapes, telephone chats etc.

0 While communicating outside your
organization the written medium can be
 letters, reports, proposals, fax, press
release, etc. oral medium can be telephone or
 teleconferencing.
