Navigation is one of the most difficult and important aspects of web design. It allows users to understand where they are within a site, where they have been, and where they can go next. However, without proper navigation cues, users can easily become disoriented, confused, and frustrated. Effective navigation provides visual and textual cues about the current page title, site section, and breadcrumb trails to indicate location and allow movement between pages. Alternative navigation methods like tag clouds that emerge organically from user tagging may also be considered to complement a traditional taxonomy-based top-down site structure.
