Some Facts to Consider 
• 80% of jobs aren’t posted. 
• 50% of posted jobs are on Twitter. 
• Most employers search for job candidates on Google 
and social media. 
• The majority of these employers have refused a 
candidate because of what they found as a result of 
these searches. 
• A minority of employers will read a candidate’s cover 
letter in full. 
• Basic social media knowledge is often a criteria for 
employment (small businesses, receptionists, sales, 
research, communications, etc.).
Training Needs for Job-Seekers 
• We’re taught basic computer skills (email, Office 
suite) that are required for the job market – no one 
wants to see a hand-written CV… 
• We’re taught to write a cover letter, but not to 
manage our online image… 
• Social media should now be considered part of the

Sell Yourself with LinkedIn 
• Great professional networking tool. 
• Excellent visibility on search engines. 
• Completely professional profile. 
• A thorough job search engine. 
• A mix between a CV (your profile), a Rolodex 
(your contacts), a job fair and a conference 
(groups). Most of the work is done once your 
profile is complete. 
• A completed profile makes a great CV (in PDF).
Search for Jobs with Twitter 
• Excellent tool for diffusing information (or 
receiving information, media-watching) 
• You can follow who you’d like: instant, 
democratic connections. 
• Profiles virtually devoid of private information. 
• Access to tweets, whether you’re a member or 
not. 
• Little time to invest, but numerous advantages. 
• You can learn the entire Twitter interface in just 
one day.
