Open science has made progress over the past year according to William Gunn. Tools like Mendeley extract and aggregate research data in the cloud to make science more collaborative and transparent by helping researchers work smarter and creating a massive open database of research. Mendeley has over 300 million documents uploaded and 2 million users from top universities around the world. It provides an open API and has been used to create mashups of data on chemical compounds, locations, Alzheimer's research, and more.
