Overview of
Instructional Analysis
By: Malyn C. Singson
 Is a set of procedures to determine what
type of skills or knowledge is required for a
learner to achieve a goal.
 Breaks the steps in the goal statement
down into smaller parts.
Identifies other necessary parts needed to
achieve the goal.
The product of the instructional analysis
process is a learning map.

Conduct Instructional Analysis
Part 1:
Goal Analysis is a method of analyzing the
affective requirements of an instructional program.
A goal analysis can be broken down into two subparts:
How to determine learning outcome
1.1 Classifying outcomes
1.2. Determining Goal Steps
1.1 Classifying Learning Outcomes
- to group the different subject matter that
needs to be learned.
This series has been broken down from a larger instructional
theory, but this broken down series can be broken down into 3
major parts
 Taxonomy
 Proposes internal and external rules in order to
complete these outcomes
 Offers 9 events of instruction, which helps to create
and conduct a unit of instruction
 Start with a very distinct, well reorganized and achievable
goal statement
 Break the goal down into smaller manageable steps.
 Then one must commit to these steps and begin to
complete them little by little
 Constant review and reassessment are key to making this
a
success
Remember: The goal steps should be measureable,
realistic, and achievable
1.2 Determining Goal Steps
Part 2:
Subordinate Skills Analysis
This step involves analyzing each individual step and
substep of the goal to determine the pre-requisite
skills that are required to complete each goal step
The Subordinate Skills Analysis are the supporting
information that learners need to be able to perform
the goal steps to receive the final outcomes of
success
There are two different approaches to this analysis
2.1. Hierarchical Approach
2.2. Cluster Analysis
Cluster Analysis
 a task of grouping a set of objects in the same
group are similar to each other than to those in other
group.
 With verbal information you are not identifying a
sequence of steps, but mainly you are just identifying
the information that is needed to achieve your goal
