This document discusses the performance of hybrid intelligent controllers for load frequency control in multi-area interconnected power systems. It compares the performance of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), artificial neural network (ANN), fuzzy, PI, and PID controllers. ANFIS combines the advantages of fuzzy systems and ANN's quick response and adaptability. The document finds that ANFIS has superior performance over ANN, fuzzy, PI, and PID controllers for a 1% step load variation based on simulations in MATLAB/Simulink of a four area hydro-thermal power system.
