Muscles and Bones Quiz
When standing on your tip toes. Identify…..[7] 1. The joint type. 2. The agonist muscle. 3. The antagonist. 4. The type of muscular contraction at the agonist. 5. The movement produced. 6. A strength exercise for the agonist. 7. The articulating bones. 1. Hinge. 2. Gastrocnemius. 3. Tibialis Anterior. 4. Isotonic Concentric. 5. Plantar Flexion. 6. Calf raises. 7. Tarsal, Talus, Tibia, fibula.
Identify 2 structural and functional characteristics of the shoulder joint. [2] Ball and Socket – greater range of movement. Cartilage – protects the ends of the bones. Ligaments – attach bone to bone and stabilise the joint. Tendons – attach muscle to bone allowing movement. Synovial fluid – lubricates the joint and absorbs force.
Identify strength exercises for the following muscles. [6] Pectoralis major. Rectus femoris. Gastrocnemius. Deltoid. Bicep. Latissimus dorsi. Bench press. Squats. Calf raises. Shoulder press. Bicep curls. Lat pull down.
Identify 3 structural and 3 functional characteristics of slow twitch oxidative muscle fibre types. [6] Structure: Red Small in size Many mitochondrea Many myoglobin. Function: Slow contractile speed. Low contractile strength. High fatigue resistance. High aerobic capacity. Low anaerobic capacity.
Outline the benefits of exercise on the muscles and bones. [4] Skeleton: Increased bone density. Articular cartilage thickens. Greater range of movement at the joint. Muscles: Hypertrophy. Tendons thicken. Increased force of contraction. Improved flexibility.
