Holy Trinity Gr. 4  Writing Teacher PLC What  is a PLC? A PLC is a group of educators formed to focus on and commit to the learning of each student they touch. This collaborative team is created to work together to achieve common goals linked to student learning. Teachers impact student learning by changing their classroom practice. PLC teams engage in collective inquiry into best practices in teaching and learning. They reflect on their own teaching and the level of achievement of their own students. Members of the PLC are expected to work and learn together.
Holy Trinity Gr. 4  Writing Teacher PLC Members of the PLC require a clear vision and purpose - what do they need to do to ensure that our students learn? We need to work together to: clarify what each member will do to create the PLC use results-oriented goals to mark their progress work together to clarify what each student must learn monitor each student's learning provide interventions to ensure students are learning when they struggle extend and enrich learning when students have mastered the outcomes

Analyze data from 2006-2007 Set goals for 2007-2008 Complete first writing assessment of the year #2 - Develop strategies and ideas to build on strengths and address weaknesses in learning. How? explore and use strategies and teaching ideas from  6 + 1 Write Traits  to improve student writing. #3 - Implement those strategies and ideas. How? be purposeful and dedicated to using those strategies and ideas in your classroom #4 - Analyze the impact of the changes to discover what was effective and what was not. #5 - Apply new knowledge to the next cycle of  improvement.

Holy Trinity Gr. 4  Writing Benchmarks First student writing to take place between  October 15 and October 26, 2007 First Prompt: Your class is preparing a book for your school library. It will be called “A Memorable Time”. You must prepare a piece of writing for this book. Think of a time when you felt: frightened, angry, surprised or proud. Pick one and write the story of what happened. #1 - We need to gather evidence of student learning. Complete first writing assessment of the year
Holy Trinity Gr. 4  Writing Benchmark Results Explore  “6 + 1 Write Traits”   Be committed to using those strategies in your classroom  Share activities and writing ideas with PLC members by using the wikispace “grade4writers” #2 - Develop strategies and ideas to build on strengths and address weaknesses in learning. How? #3 - Implement those strategies and ideas. How?

Nothing should be a surprise to them. deliver prompt and collect writing samples review all presentations on the wikispace read book (I'll have copies for the new people asap) incorporate some of the strategies outlined in the book set a date for next meeting to investigate “Conventions”
