This document provides an overview of the literature on mobile and ubiquitous information systems research. It analyzes 506 research articles from 2000 to 2006 to understand the state and development of this research area. The analysis found that early research had a descriptive focus using conceptual analysis rather than empirical studies. However, more recent research is increasingly using primary data collection and empirical methods. While applications and impacts are well-researched, future work needs more theory development and studies understanding the nature of mobility. The document recommends high-quality empirical research and analyzing how IS theories apply to ubiquitous environments.
