Assignment 1A: Portfolio Draft – Curation, Creating Convention & Packaging (30%)
Introduction
As a ‘Curator’ of your own projects, you are required to reconcile your projects within the
programme or works outside of your academic programme (must be related to architecture) to
represent your personal direction and design approach.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follow:
 To develop the student’s ability to understand and exercise discernment in the selection
process of materials to be included in their portfolio.
 To introduce and discuss various approaches for the presentation of works in the format
of a portfolio.

 To introduce proficiencies and skills required in the production and design of a personal
portfolio.
Learning Outcomes of this Project
 Strategize and organize the necessary resources (effective time management, application
of software, etc.) for the production of a personal portfolio
Task – Methodology
Project Selection is to reconcile your projects of all streams within the programme (architecture
design studios, technology and building environment studies, history and cultural studies,
communication and professional studies, electives) or works outside of your academic programme
(must be related to architecture) and select the best FOUR projects / works to represent your
personal direction in-conjunction with your Personal Design Statement by using a few key images
or diagrams for each project.
You are to select a most suitable format for your portfolio (smallest A5 (min. 8 pages per project);
largest A3). Be creative with your format, as they don’t have to be exact A5, A4 or A3 format. You
are encouraged to customize your format: cut, fold…etc. Before deciding your format, you do need
to consider all the projects’ scale, type of drawing, graphics…etc.
You are to create a draft layout for all the projects in the selected format (Min. 4 pages to a max.
of 8 pages per project, excluding cover and content pages for a typical A4 size format). You are
also required to sketch an initial packaging idea/concept in ONE A4.
Submission Requirement
Portfolio Draft: Creating Convention and Packaging
 A set of Black & White printed layout on the selected format (total 4 projects). Colour
printouts are optional.
 ONE A4 with the initial packaging idea/concept sketch.
*note: Please provide an initial concept sketch for Studio 6.

Assignment 1B: Personal Design Statement (20%)
Introduction
To make your portfolio succinctly, you are required to create a suitable format, size and graphic
convention which will display your work effectively and translate your Personal Design Statement
clearly.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follow:
 To introduce and discuss various approaches for the presentation of works in the format
of a portfolio.
 To introduce proficiencies and skills required in the production and design of a personal
portfolio.
 To aid the development of and enhance a student’s individual design statement and
conceptualization skills.
Learning Outcomes of this Project
 Develop and distinguish a personal design statement and direction
Task – Methodology
A Personal Design Statement should be a well written essay with the intention to summarize your
overall experiences, area of interests in the course and abilities to determine your own personal
design values and direction in architecture. The word count for the paper is 400 words Maximum.

You are required to submit your final portfolio.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project are as follow:
 To introduce proficiencies and skills required in the production and design of a personal
portfolio.
Learning Outcomes of this Project
 Produce a compiled document of works that succinctly highlights the student’s personal
design statement, acquired skills and intellectual capacities
Task – Methodology
You are to finalize your portfolio layout and the packaging product.
Submission Requirement
Creating Convention and Packaging
 A set of Colour printed layout on the selected format (total 4 projects).
 Final packaging product.

 PERSONAL DESIGN STATEMENT 5 %
 CURATION (Theme & Selection) 10 %

Final submission with final Studio 6 project bound together in one complete packaging.
