Tutor Finder
By
Aaron Ho, Kevin Vo, Megan Montiel
What is the background of our
situation?:
The problem we are addressing is how students from
different grade levels don’t cooperate. The users we are
focusing on are 6-8th grade, and this app is intended for
students to tutor themselves and other grade levels and to
increase the friendship between grade levels.
Our Specific Problem:
Students throughout grade levels do not communicate with
each other very often therefore they don’t talk.
Our Core Question:
How can we create an app that supports cross grade
communication?
-Key Insight Statements-
One of the key insight statements that we had noticed was “Teacher.”
The way it was used was strange. It had seemed that the audience
never liked to ask teachers for help. Students seemed to like talking
among themselves rather than the teachers. So implementing this in
our app was a major role in its making.
-Introducing our App-
How can we create an app that encourages cross-grade level
suppose and communication? The app is called Tutor Finder.
Tutor Finder is an app filled with tutors from different grade levels
that are willing to help you out on any struggles you are having
academically. This does not force the younger students to talk to
older kids; they’re getting help and talking to the older kids at the
same time.
-What We Learned From Our Users?-
The interview results requested that there should be a rating
system, others wanted to speak with the tutor and ask
questions, and others wanted to get some information about
the person they are tutored by.
Terms Of Flow
A way that our app works for the users is its simplicity. The app is easy
and affordable to use.
-Key Wireframes-
Our app’s core features was to enable students to become
tutors and to find tutors by subject, level and expertise.
Calling System

calling system in designer mode

here.

Summary of Data, Content, and
Technical Feasibility
Our product relies on data space to hold its users information
and to provide communications between the students. We
feel that our app is easy to manufacture because the app is
simple, small, and grows with its user size.
App Design Mockup
-Our Creative Journey-
The beginning of our creative journey was
coming up with the idea. We had no idea what to
do but when it came to us, it was incredible.
There weren’t many Tutor apps that were good,
and so we decided to make one.
We had competition with another group who had
the same idea, but that rivalry kept us going.
Making the app was difficult and we hardly knew
anything about making them. Surely was the
hardest challenge to make the app itself.
App Design Mockup
-Our Creative Journey Cont.-
After our app and presentation was done, we
went to the Seattle University to present our idea
and our app. We all were very excited, we wanted
to know if we won anything. We had worked so
hard on the project, it would feel terrible if we
didn’t win anything. Turns out, our wishes were
granted. We won 2nd place, a well deserved 2nd
place.

Editor's Notes

  • #2: A title slide describing the name of the app, the team name and the names of team members and possibly a logo, if you have one
  • #3: What is the background situation you are addressing? Describe the context users are experiencing. Example: Buzzer Buddiez: Who? Students What? Students are studying for exams When? 7am Where? Student dorm Why? Late night cramming, student likely to oversleep
  • #4: What specific problem do people encounter in that situation? Use the results from your user research Examples: Buzzer Buddiez: your alarm does not work and you are thus late for: school, work, exams, doctor etc Transit: Many parents don’t speak English and their children have to translate the feedback that a teacher provides. When the feedback is negative students mistranslate.
  • #5: What core question are you addressing with the app? Examples: Buzzer Buddiez: how can you avoid oversleeping? Transit: how can negative teacher feedback be translated accurately?
  • #6: Use your key insights statements from your findings during User Research to provide evidence that your app is solving a genuine problem in a different way for users. Examples: Buzzer Buddiez: you wake up to hit snooze/ switch off the alarm, but don’t get up. Friends and family i.e. social pressure can help to push you to actually get out of bed. Transit: parent- teacher conferences are not open-ended conversations. You can map the key areas of negative feedback around attendance, behavior, results etc. to bridge the conversation between parents and teachers.
  • #7: To introduce the judges to your team and the product, include your final one minute elevator pitch here. Example: - Buzzer Buddiez: Our team, [Buzzer Buddiez], is developing [a mobile app] to help [students] [who have studied late and are likely to oversleep because they hit snooze on their alarm clock] [to wake up on time with the help from friends and family]
  • #8: Summarize what you have learned about your users. Remember, these profiles must be based on real users you interviewed.
  • #9: Show here what your App will look like in terms of flow and if/ how you have already integrated any user feedback from your interviews. How will your app move from screen to screen in a way that works for your user?
  • #10: Show here what your app will look like in terms of the key wireframes of your app’s core feature.
  • #11: Show here what your app will look like in terms of the key wireframes of your app’s core feature.
  • #12: Show here what your app will look like in terms of the key wireframes of your app’s core feature.
  • #13: Summarize what you have learned about data, content and technical feasibility. If your product relies heavily on data, where will you get it? Share with us any information that shows that your app can be successfully produced.
  • #14: This slide is your chance to add more information about your creative journey and your team. Did you create a website? Show your work to experts or the media? Present at your school or at another contest? You can also share any information about what other apps like yours are out there and how yours is different.
