LMS for schools
A learning management system (LMS) is a software
application for the administration, documentation,
tracking, reporting, automation, and delivery of
educational courses, training programs, or learning
and development programs.
The learning management system concept emerged
directly from e-Learning.
Blackboard, Canvas LMS, Moodle, D2L, and Schoology
are popular Learning Management Systems used by
top higher education institutions globally.
Sometimes, they are known as Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE). Some of these Learning
Management Systems are customized by the various
institutions giving them unique, exciting names.
Types of Learning Management Systems
There are different types of learning management
systems.
1.
These are Learning Management systems for
Universities, Colleges, basic schools, or any
educational institution.
Moodle, Blackboard, D2L, Docebo, Canvas, Sakai,
Schoology are examples of LMS for schools.

2. Free LMS platforms
Free LMS platforms are mostly open-source
learning management systems where the
basic LMS open source code is free, but you
have to pay for additional add-on features
and upgrades. Open-source LMS’s require
technological capabilities and will need
some development experts to help out.
Examples are Moodle, Sakai, ATutor, Chamilo,
Open edX, Eliademy.
3. Corporate LMS platforms
Corporate Learning Management Systems
provides a flexible learning platform for
online training teams, employees, clients, or
suppliers.
Examples are Adobe Captivate, Cornerstone
OnDemand, Skillsoft, Docebo.
This document will focus on Learning
Management for Schools, and some
universities have interesting Learning
Management System names.
