- #4: Personal area networks typically involve a mobile computer, a cell phone and/or a handheld computing device such as a PDA. You can use these networks to transfer files including email and calendar appointments, digital photos and music.
- #5: A networked office building, school, or home usually contains a single LAN, though sometimes one building will contain a few small LANs (perhaps one per room), and occasionally a LAN will span a group of nearby buildings. In TCP/IP networking, a LAN is often but not always implemented as a single IPsubnet .
- #6: A MAN is typically owned an operated by a single entity such as a government body or large corporation.
- #7: WANs tend to use technology like ATM, Frame Relay and X.25 for connectivity over the longer distances.
- #8: A SAN typically supports data storage, retrieval and replication on business networks using high-end servers, multiple disk arrays and Fibre Channelinterconnection technology.
- #9: The idea of Bluetooth is to get rid of the need for all those cables(e.g. USB cables) that connect our computer to peripheral devices such as printers,mouse,keyboards etc.
- #10: VPN allows administrators to take advantage of the Internet to help provide the functionality and security of private WAN connections at a lower cost. In Windows Server 2003, VPN is enabled using the Routing and Remote Access service. VPN is part of a comprehensive network access solution that includes support for authentication and authorization services, and advanced network security technologies.
- #11: At the centre of the WLAN is a wireless switch or router – a small box with one or two antennas sticking out the back – used for sending and receiving data to the computer. (Most laptops have a wireless antenna built into the case.)
