The Basics for Beginners

• Stock went public in May ‘11 and the price more than doubles
• LinkedIn is the #1 social networking site for
  professionals (as of 8/4/11)
• Over 120 million members worldwide –
   joining at a rate faster than two new members per second
• 75 of the Fortune 100 companies use LinkedIn as part of their
  hiring solution
II. Sending invitations




Recommendation - don’t send out “template” invitations.

You’ll receive two emails; 1 in the LinkedIn inbox & 1 in personal email

          Take some time to think about
        why you are requesting a connection
          and write a brief personal note
            to ensure more responses.
III. Asking for
                        recommendations




Step 1 provides a
dropdown list of your
jobs.

In Step 2, type the
name(s) of your
connections. So add
these first BEFORE
asking for recos.

Step 3 is the message
area. Make it good!
IV. Using the search feature




Advanced search offers filters for:
Relationship, Groups, Seniority Level, Interests, Language, Years of
Experience, Recently Joined, Company Size, Job Function, and Industry.
V. LinkedIn Groups




If you’re not a member of any associations, many companies, networking
organizations, and Meetups have groups on the site.
VI. Posting questions in the Answer Center
1) You can ask questions on a range of topics from
        Administration to Using LinkedIn.

 2) Also, you can browse or search for questions
        that have already been answered.

  3) As people in your network ask questions,
      they will show up on the next page.
