- 2. Student Registration/Log-In Process 1. Go to www.cengagebrain.com. Bookmark this site as you will come here each time to log in!
- 3. Student Registration/Log-In Process 2. Enter the access code given to you by your instructor under “Register”.
- 4. Student Registration/Log-In Process 3. Follow the next few steps to set up an account at CengageBrain.com (If you already have a CengageBrain account, skip this step by logging in.)
- 5. Student Registration/Log-In Process 4. After setting up your account or logging in, you will be taken to the CengageBrain home page. The next step is to click on the “SSO WRITE EXP TRAINING PROMPT” Open button.
- 6. Student Registration/Log-In Process 5. After clicking on the Write Experience link in your new account, a new window will open for Write Experience 6. You will immediately be prompted to enter the COURSE KEY given to you by your instructor.
- 7. Student Registration/Log-In Process You are now ready to use Write Experience! Click on ASSIGNMENTS to get started.
- 8. Getting Started • Click on your course and the list of assignments for your course will appear below. Then Click START next to the assignment you want to complete.
- 9. Getting Started BE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT ASSIGNMENT. THE ASSIGNMENTS MAY NOT BE IN THE ORDER THEY ARE DUE.

- 11. Troubleshooting Tips Note: Because you are in “Training Mode” the MyTutor feature will not work. This is an example of what you will see if you try to access this feature.
- 12. Troubleshooting Tips IMPORTANT TO KNOW Assignments submitted after the due date may NOT be graded. Ideally, you should NOT copy and paste your submissions from MS Word. If you do, then you need to make sure you remove any extra characters that may be added through this process before hitting Submit.
- 13. Working in the Product: Troubleshooting Tips • After hitting “Submit Essay” not much happens – that’s OK! • Scores for the writing assignments will not appear for about 8-10 weeks after submission.
- 14. Troubleshooting Tips DON’T USE THE “BACK” BUTTON ON THE BROWSER When in the “writing” screen, always click “Save & Finish Later” if you want to stop writing and return to the list of assignments WITHOUT submitting a final response!

Congratulations, you are one of just a few schools across the entire country gaining free access to the Write Experience—an innovative, digital auto-graded product. As part of the development process, your instructor has agreed to use this product in their course--it will undoubtedly help you refine your writing skills and ensure you understand what you are learning in your course! You should have already received/or will soon receive a unique access code and your course key code from your instructor. These two codes are all you need to begin using Write Experience.
- #3: If you do not have a Cengage brain account, you will need to do just a few extra steps. If you already have an account, and are registered, the process will be a little simpler.
- #10: NOTE that the screen you see here shows business communication assignments but of course YOU will see the assignments for your specific course. The list of writing assignments is under the “Topic” column. The “Sub.#” column indicates any activity that’s occurred on each assignment. Also, make sure you choose the right assignment. Assignments may not be listed in the order in which they are due. Be sure to follow your instructor’s deadlines closely in completing each assignment.
- #11: When you are ready to begin working on an assignment, click on that assignment and then instructions specific to that assignment will appear. After reading these instructions, click “Start Your Assignment.”
- #12: Because you are in “training” mode, the MyTutor feature will not work. If you try to use this feature, this is an example of what you will see.
- #13: Submissions that that arrive after the due date will not be scored. You CAN copy and paste your assignment submissions from MS Word. However, it is extremely important to note that Word inserts special characters into documents (such as the paragraph character and the return character.) Those characters appear in a WE submission that was copied and pasted from Word and can disrupt scoring. It is best if you write your assignment directly in WE but if you do copy and paste from Word, you need to review that work and delete any of the characters that were inserted by Word and display in WE after the fact.
- #14: This is an example of what you will see after submitting your essay for grading. Scores will appear within your accounts within about four weeks after submission/or the course due date determined by your instructor.
