Developing Teaching Materials
By Rosa Sandoval
www.rvsandoval.blogspot.com
Authentic Input
• Communicative competence is the ability
to talk to others in an acceptable way
without improper expressions or personal
and cultural offense.
• To achieve this goal, authentic input is
incorporated into the language instruction
through the use of songs, games, stories,
videos that are derived from the target
language and culture.
Frameworks in Materials
Development
The role of frameworks is to guide the
person selecting or making teaching
materials in order to be coherent and
flexible.
The person has:
• To identify the need for materials
• To explore the need for materials
Frameworks in Materials
Development
• To contextualize the realization of
materials
• To explore the students use of the
materials
• To evaluate the materials against agreed
objectives
Humanizing the Course Book
Some reasons to humanize a book
are:
• To engage the students
• To match the sociological and
psychological realities of a particular group
of learners
• To connect learning English with the
learners lives
Humanizing the Course Book
• To use the human being´s potential for
multidimensional processing
(mental imaging, inner speech,
emotional responses)
• To relax, to develop self-confidence
• To use their experience of life, views,
interest and enthusiasm
Flexibility
Teachers need to adapt materials
to different kind of realities,
situations and ages
Moving from text to Language
When you are using texts, the last
activities you have to do are
about grammar
Providing Engaging Content
Material has to achieve interaction
with the students senses,
feelings, views and intuitions of
the learners
Learner Development
Teaching Material helps students to
take interest in learning by
themselves
